Redundancy – What is it?

An employee is regarded as terminated on the grounds of genuine redundancy when the employer decides that it no longer wishes the job to be performed by anyone.

What are my Entitlements?

A permanent employee must be given notice (or payment in lieu of notice) of the fact that their job will no longer exist. In addition, an employee may also be entitled to redundancy or severance payments to compensate for the inconvenience and hardship that result as a result of the position being made redundant.

My Redundancy is not Genuine – What can I do?

Where an employer claims that a termination is on the grounds of redundancy, but the real motive is to dismiss an employee on other unrelated grounds, then the employee may have access to both unfair and unlawful dismissal rights.
